Part of Something Bigger…

Despite all of the political turmoil happening in the USA right now, I’m feeling a few themes that are based in positivity.  I’m seeing a lot of togetherness and support for people in minority communities that haven’t previously felt such inclusion at a grass-roots level.  In many communities I’m hearing people say things like:

‘Despite having been in the USA for many years, I really didn’t realize how much love and support there was for me and for people like me’.

This is something valuable that I am taking away from the multitude of protests and demonstrations.  People care – and people feel a need to do something rather than just sit around feeling frustrated.  This is a theme that brings to mind many sessions I’ve had with people about how they aren’t feeling a ‘part of’, they instead feel like outsiders in their own lives.  When one makes the decision to take action on something – and follows through – new seeds are planted in the brain.  New thought patters, new actions, and eventually new neural networks to compliment them.  This is important, and empowering!  Having a perspective of there being something greater than the self, greater than the individual, and actively being a part of it is psychologically and actively fulfilling.

For today, take a moment and think about the things in your life that make you an active participant at a scale greater than the individual.  Reflect on whether your life could be more satisfying if you played a greater role in something bigger…
